John Hiatt, Patty Griffin headline Cross-County Lines

Americana Music News — John Hiatt and Patty Griffin are headlining  the Americana Music Association’s  2nd annual Cross-County Lines festival on May 31 in Franklin, TN.

Also in the line-up: Ashley Monroe, Brandy  Clark, Parker Millsap, Joe Pug and Luther Dickinson.

It’s a 7-hour showcase for roots and Americana music in The Park at Harlinsdale Farm, just outside the offices of the Americana Music Association.

We attended last year’s kick-off Cross-County Lines event, which featured Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas and Amos Lee. The 2014 event should be just as memorable.

The music starts at 3:30 p.m. and $35 tickets are available from Ticketmaster and at the Franklin Theatre box office.

The 2012 Americana Honors and Awards nominees were announced today in Los Angeles. They’ll be presented at the Ryman Auditorium on September 12 during the Americana Music Festival in Nashville.

Buddy Miller stepped into the elevator on the Cayamo cruise, seemingly unaware of the growing crowd lining up to see him. I had met Buddy at a party in Nashville recently and told him I was looking forward to seeing him play – if I could get in.
He looked puzzled.
“There are already 200 people lined up outside the theater for your show tonight,” I explained. He had no idea.
The show was worth the wait. With a guest appearance by Steve Earle and several songs featuring Patty Griffin, Miller offered up a set ranging from a Lefty Frizell classic to “You Can’t Judge a Book (By Looking at the Cover.)”
The highlight was a searing take on his own “Gasoline and Matches.”
Miller joked that this show – his second on the cruise – was the end of his 2011 world tour, which began the night before. His solo dates are rare and this show was a real treat.
