Hayes Carll’s “What It Is” named top Americana album in 2019

The Americana Music Association reports that Hayes’ Carll’s “What It Is” was the most played album on Americana radio stations in 2019, just ahead of the most recent releases by Josh Ritter and the Lumineers.

The Top 10:

This weekend: 2017 Pilgrimage Music Festival

Nashville-area music fans never rest. Just days after the Americana Music Festival came to a close, fans will turn out in record numbers for the third annual Pilgrimage and Cultural Festival the weekend of Sept. 23 and 24.

It’s a festival of remarkable range with performances by Justin Timberlake, Eddie Vedder, the Avett Brothers, Better Than Ezra, the Jerry Douglas Band, Trombone Shorty, Walk the Moon, Mavis Staples and many more.

It’s also a very civilized event, with shows running from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both days. Little wonder that entire families come out. It’s a very kid-friendly event, with many programs for “Lil’ Pilgrims.”

Timberlake is a partner in the venture and his performance is clearly the most anticipated of the weekend. No pressure.

Americana Music News – The ever-growing American Music Association announced today that its annual Nashville festival  will feature an outdoor concert on the city’s riverfront on Sept. 20 with the Avett Brothers as headliners.

The concert will anchor the Americana Music Festival and Conference, scheduled to take place Sept. 12-21. Tickets go on sale June 27 for the riverfront concert. Admission is free to conference registrants.

ACL’s Terry Lickona recaps best of Americana Music Festival

The Americana Music Festival edition of Austin City Limits is being seen across the country on PBS stations this week, and Brian Atkinson  interviewed ACL producer Terry Lickona for the Austin American-Statesman about how the show came about.
You’ll find the full interview at the American-Statesman site, but here’s what he had to say about the highlights of the evening:
“I’m huge fan of the Avett Brothers. The fact that they did a new song that night was definitely a standout. Robert Plant and his Band of Joy with our own Patty Griffin was a great moment. I think probably the emotional highlight of the show came at the very end when Gregg Allman performed “Melissa.” We literally didn’t know until the morning of the show whether he was even going to be there because he’s had some pretty serious health issues. That was certainly a poignant moment and a great way to close out the hour.”
